KTM leased 39 of these locomotives, secondhand from Indian Railways in the late 1990. They were intended as a stopgap until more up-to-date traction could be obtained, and will eventually be returned to India. For this reason they have retained their Indian Railways fleet numbers.The original locos were delivered to Indian Railways between 1961 and 1993. The first examples came from Alco (1961-1964) and Montreal Locomotive Works (1964), but later batches were built by India's Diesel Locomotive Works.

Manufactured by DLoco Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co , Dalian, China. Brought in 2005 - 2006.The order have been funded with Malaysian palm oil.

26 Class Locomotive

Class 26 - 6800 @ 26107

This prototype was supplied to KTM as a demonstrator for a possible larger order. KTM opted for Chinese locos instead, and this loco remains an interesting one-off. It was originally numbered 26107, indicating a possible intention to make this Class 26. However, this number has now been taken by a Blue Tiger, and this loco has reverted to its Indian number, 6800.
